Why Murals?
From 1990’s felony charge for graffiti, to photographer and artist, to commissioned muralist.
In May of 1994, at 18 years old, I painted a 3 color mural that I had not planned but just improvised on the back side of a retaining wall. It said ¡RAPID-FIRE HANDGUN! A week later I talked my way out of going to jail for a tag of the55disciple, got interviewed by detectives, and released. Two days prior to my departure for college at 4 a.m., two Sioux Falls Police Department officers knocked on my door. Worried about a perceived rise in gang activity, they had no idea that we were just a bunch of wanna be artist trying to express our desperation in life. I put down the spray cans and started building large cameras and making large photographs. Fast forward 20 years and I was asked to finish the interior of an urban themed restaurant and paint was again my medium. Now with several gigantic murals in my portfolio, A combination of digital tools to prep and plan murals and a drive to create community, I feel ready to take on almost any project.
